What is your Real Work

I have been reading a book about growth mindset vs a fixed mindset.  And though Hub says I have a growth mindset, to me I just don't quite feel that I am giving my all.  Or that I am really trying very hard.  Its not that I am not trying or, that I am slacking.  I dunno.

I am trying to work out where it is that I really need to dig in and WORK.

At work, People Who Do work, that is.  We have been considering the question, 'What is your REAL work'.  I can get very deep about this, and be all yogic and spiritual, and say my real work is Yoga.  Union of mind body and spirit.  Or working towards Samadhi to use the proper Sanskrit.  That is my work as a human being.

Then there is the work that I am 'called' to do.  And this is also pretty vague to be honest.  I mean, its not, its core and I really connect with it, but at the same time, its pretty general.  And can apply to anything.  LIke being an artist.  or Connecting people.  Making Magic.  Creativing 'pure magical energy and connection between human souls' Or on a personal level, being 'engaged, curious, vibrant and brave'.  This work includes my mini meta project of 'getting people to eat together who have not yet eaten together'.  I mean, getting people to eat together and meet while eating, and ideally preparing food together.  And making art or music together.

And then there is the Work of my household.  Which is practical.  Like cleaning and decluttering.  Parenting.  Parenting - now that is full on, all encompassing, fascinating and utterly important work.  Am I giving my ALL to that?

And then there is WORK like my work with People Who Do.  Which is helping people do what they love.  Helping THEM do THEIR real work.

And there is WORK that earns money.  And my real work, in that respect is to learn how to earn as much money in as little time as possible, how to earn money in a way that is true to my values, and how to increase my economic value in the world.  OR  - increase my value to the world.  Perhaps that, To increase my Value to the world.  THAT is my REAL WORK.

how can I be of more value to the world.

I feel that is the right answer to the question, 'what is your real work'.  And dammit.  Its a question. My work is to answer that question.  Its not entirely an answer really.  I am hoping that by keeping writing about it, I will come up with some answers.

Hmm.  I could start with making each area of my life, more specific.
How can I be of more value to yoga?
How can I be of more value to my household?
How can I be of more value as a parent? to my son?
How can I be of more value to People Who Do?
How can I be of more value as a connector?
How can I be of more value as an artist?
How can I be of more value to Magical energy and connecting human souls?

That is starting to make more sense.  On a doable practical level.   I like it though.  Its engaging.  I feel connected to it.

Creative Sacred

I am very pleased to be able to write that since my last post, I have managed to keep to my regime of doing at least 15 mins yoga a day.  Its been easy and pleasurable actually.  I have totally enjoyed reconnecting on a daily basis with my yoga practice.

I am not entirely sure why I put Creative Sacred as the title.  I was reading my blog list and thought I would check up on a few, this is in google reader, not the blog roll list, and there are a few I had forgotten I had signed up for.  Creative Sacred was one of them.  I remember it was a rather brilliant site by a dynamic young lady from London, who hosted creative salons and the such like.  I clicked on it, but it seemed to no longer exist.  I do recall, now, thinking about it, that she was going to stop blogging.  Which was a shame for me, as I enjoyed her blog.  But at the same time, I am sort of pleased it is not there anymore.  For this one reason only, I LOVE the name of it.  I remember reading that she had come up with it after reading a Danielle Laporte book about finding your words.  or style.  I read it too, and then sold it in a decluttering phase.  I really like the idea, that you chose your style and picked 2 words to give each a sort of dramatic tension.  I think Danielle's words were something like Sacred Dramatic.

I really wanted to use Creative Sacred as it kind of summed up my artistic yogic thing.  I had other words too, and fundamentally found it bloody hard to just pick 2.  But if I was forced to, then Creative Sacred would have been it.

I am gearing myself up for my 2 trips.  One to Ibiza with my son, and a friend of mine and her son, a friend of his.  We will be staying with our mutual friends who have a bar in the north of the island.  I am hoping for a relaxed week of warm sunshine and swims in the sea.  I hope its warm anyway.  Bound to be warmer than here, surely, and I do think the sea will still be warm-ish.  I will also be scouting for suitable villas to do a retreat next year.  Which is a plan I am hatching.

As for California.  Oh my.  I am excited and nervous all at the same time.   Hub is getting a bit grumpy and antsy as he is not keen on my going away, bless him.  I wish he were able to come with me, with Bub and we could all hang out.  Well, they could hang out and do other stuff while I did art of course.  Yes Call of the Wild Soul.  Here I come.  I am collecting my art trades, getting the stock for my table, printing out the supply lists and slightly panicking about how on earth i am meant to transport sheets of glass anywhere.....   And planning my reading list for the plane.

And thinking.  Wow.  This is all going to be damn Creative Sacred.  yup.

I didn't Say it would be Easy. I did say it would be worth it.

Today I read this post  and as I often am.  I was inspired.  Oh my.  stop the blethering.  Its not easy but its worth it.

Today I am beginning a new regime.  Yes, another one.  Its always good to start regimes I find.  This one isn't even that hard.  My minimum is 15 mins  Yoga a day.  I am going to run for at least 20 mins 3 times a week.  And the other thing is flossing. which I need to do 5 times a week to get my points.

I am going to be using the tried and tested kid friendly wall chart for my regime.

Lost in Living

My friend Crim Bo organised a screening of the film Lost in Living yesterday.  A film by Mary Trunk.  It was attended by about 30 creative mothers of Brighton.  Ah, it made me cry.  Not perhaps for the reasons it should have (according to whom? Me?). It was a beautiful and intelligent film about some beautiful and intelligent mothers.  And their mothers, and their children.  It highlighted that tug between the creative life of art and the creative life of family. And how these particular mothers, made their choices.  It was poignant and real.   And sad and uplifting.  And I felt at once, ordinary and called to step up.

Another thing that happened was that I met with a woman for whom I am extremely late on delivering a portrait.  She wasn't pleased and I was ashamed.  I struggle with portraits.  I really do, and I need a deadline, otherwise I procrastinate horribly.

I want to give the money back.  And do something she will be more than delighted with.  And yet I also know that I have ruined this potential relationship by being so crap.  I am not proud of myself.  And I still have to do the portrait.  Maybe I should just get on with it now.

The only way out of this one is through.  But I think I may give up on portraits in future.  I do not enjoy doing them.  They hurt and make me only think of pleasing.  Its a horrible vunerability.  But I am bound.

I guess I don't want to do art like that any more.   LATER.  I just sat down and did it.  WHY could I have not done that months ago.  Sometimes I really need to be pushed.  Sometimes work is HARD.

oh man

I am really flying and buzzing and getting started and active and all sorts of excited stuff.  Had a great meeting this morning with a fellow yogini about the 'I'll Have What She's Having Project'  its probably going to morph and change title. Though I do like this one more than 'How to be a Cool Old Lady" which is exactly the same thing but without the word old.  I dunno. It might change back again.

Lots of ideas bouncing around, but I loved having her editors head view point on it.  We came up with a lot of things, but perhaps the main thing was.

"Empowering women to value themselves regardless of money and be beautiful regardless of youth"

other things, such as a campaign for real equality, redefining beauty, redefining what 'an empowered woman' is. Recognising the female perspective, influencing society.  Questions, such as who am I talking to, how does it pay, what headings will it have, how and who will contribute.  Words likes style, self confidence. influence, confidence, support.

And also the whole thing about Annesley.  About creating a retreat venue, not necessarily a retreat.  Perhaps more of a movement. A REAL wild school, a centre for shared learning, creativity and collaboration.  And whether the whole thing can be done without money.

I don't even know where to start with this BIG idea.  I had a brain wave on Saturday.  You know, one of those moments that hit with absolute clarity.  Provokes a flurry of excitment, huge beating heart buzzingness.  I just realised that it might be possible.  You know, the whole thing.  Regardless of money or influence.

It started when my colleage at People Who Do was describing a high level pay regrade at the university.  At this level, its not about skills that you have, its who you are.  What kind of person are they? And there are lots of psychometric testing things, but one of the questions that struck me between the eyeballs, was.... how would you change things without a budget and without power.

And I put it all together, when I was reading something about money. I am quite fascinated with money - you know - as a concept, and a reality.  And this point of view i was reading, suggested that you examine what it is that you think having more money will bring you.  So I honestly examined my motives.  I felt that if i was very 'successful' as in, you know I had earned lots of money somehow, then what I had done would be of interest to others.  So my need, to be answered by money, was 'influence' and 'credibility'.  And then this point of view, suggested that you go about getting those qualities first.

And it was at that point that I decided that I would - at least try - to buy Annesley and create a centre for creativity, help my parents financially and keep it in the family - and do something with it, that it is crying out for........  without budget or power.  Lets see how far I can go.  It is, I believe, possible.  I don't yet know how.  But I am on the case of finding out.  I am speaking to an expert in cooperatives, a social entrepreneur, I have 2 charitable status folk to speak to, and one of them in an accountant for charities.  There is a friend of a friend who is in the process of 'buying' a house in France under the same principles. And someone who has set up a business with 'semi-charitable' status.  I have examined the possibilities of kickstarter.  AND whatever happens, my brother and I will be organising two 'retreats' or whatever they are called.  One more about visual arts and theatre or  - well it could be all sorts of things, but so far, I have artists, yoga teachers and a pupeteer keen.  And my brother is organising an event for classical musicians.  These will be self taught, or the teaching will be shared.  Or self generated.  Banquets will be held.  Meanwhile the estate agents can bring in viewers to see how the house can be used.  Because until we have a water tight business plan and funding set up, to equal or better what the house is on the market for, the house is still on the market.  Its very exciting.  It will at least come to these two events.  Unless a buyer pops up in the next 2 months anyway.  And if they do, well, they do.  Its the situation that exists.  We will keep going with our offer and our folks can take which ever they choose.  Tis their house.

the recycled orchestra

Do you think they are on tour? I'd love to see them.

Just Start.

SO not long ago I wrote a post called How to Earn Lots of Money.  Or maybe it was Make Lots of Money.  Well I have actually got a better idea.  What is it that you would get from Lots of MOney.  And working out a way to get that.

And just start.  I do have a BIG idea actually. And I am just starting it.  It will probably change, and it may not even happen, but the process of starting it, is exciting and empowering, and will bring me closer to where I want to be.

So,  WHere do you want to be.  And how are you going to get there? OH and yup, you just need to start...

How to earn lots of money

Slightly ironic posting . in that.  Seriously? I just want to know the answer.    I absolutley have a great life.  I absolutely can get a different perspective on life and realise that my life and the money I have to live on is seriously in the top percentage of richness in the world and also, you know, that a rich life has little to do with the amount of money you have.

However.  Dammit.  I am here again.  I actually need to produce some money from somewhere somehow.

Like decluttering and housework, earning money & upping my income etc is like some sort of eternal quest, that feels that is never going to be done.  I mean, How am I going to hire a cleaner if the coffers are dry?

I'm not super worried or anything.  We will be fine.  I have trust in the universe that "this too will pass".  BUT ITS ANNOYING.  There is stuff I want to DO.

I don't want to go back to juggling bank accounts around so that we can pay the bills.

SO.  How do I earn some money? What can I DO? What is it that I am not doing, or should be doing differently to make the difference.

C'mon Universe.  Enlighten me.

am going a little video crazy. BUT seriously this is really inspiring and fun. And meaningless. Enjoy

inspiring art journal by Sarah Bunker

craxy running shoes and a crazy running me.

I am so building myself up to this.  But I am making it more and more public so that it seriously has to happen.  Its all very well at the moment as most of it has involved sitting at the computer and shopping.  But  - here goes - I am running in a trail race.  In crazy barefoot shoes (unless of course my instincts are actually wrong and this is an utterly bad idea which I learn about in the field, so to speak)

Yes I am.  And I am doing it for charity.  So whereever you are in the world.  Do please check out my justgiving page and donate.  Teeny amounts count!! I will love you just for making it look like I have LOTS of donors.  I have 1 at the moment.  So I have already raised some money.  But I want to raise more!

Here is the link.  http://www.justgiving.com/Moyra-Scott

Go for it.

I had better start practicing my running.

Gone. (not me but she has....)
