Dreams Come True
Back in January, I dreamed of being in my own studio, painting and coaching. And this came along with a powerful realisation that "the only way to do it, is to do it". So I started asking around and looking. Bascially, my dream studio is JUST like Lawrence Art Studios - which is where i run the Wild Painting sessions (next one July 14-15 btw).
It is light, spacious, warm - and - has a sink ( I love a sink!) Ideally its within walking distance of my home too. I drove about looking at spaces, but none of them was right none of these places - were a patch on Lawrence's and as - taking on a studio is an investment - it is important that the space has the right feel to it, You know, when you walk in, it is magical - I resolved to hire Lawrences, every Friday until the end of the year (as its HUGE and a for hire space, it was not possible for me to hire it entirely - just yet!) lol!.
I believe in taking the fastest route to what you want, and that just being in the studio would help manifest my dreams - I hosted a few things there, and spent some time in it, and then, a friend of mine said she was looking to sublet out her studio at Phoenix Art Studios. Now, Phoenix is just down the road from where I live - it has a sink, is light and spacious and its warm. So I took it. Its 5 months - and I am making it work - because it is SO DAMN FANTASTIC having my own creative workspace - this is not a desire that is going away. This experience is making me realise just how much I want and need this space. I already have a couple of commissions and I will be taking part in the Open Studios - 18-20 May. I am up for illustration work (really enjoyed doing this) painting portrait commissions,
hosting occasional Wild Art Journaling sessions here - AND - the main reason I was prompted to get in touch with you all today - offering coaching sessions here. I have an offer...... 3 months of coaching here for the super excellent price of £650 I am a qualified Business and Leadership coach and expert in productivity and getting stuff DONE. Coaching packages = First session is 2-3 hours and is longer session - to get clear on what is wanted & identify areas that are going to be worked on. Then shorter sessions set out regularly over the next 3 months. Coaching is bloody amazing and absolutely works. It's all about being in charge of Creating Your Future. I'd be delighted to talk to you about it and sort a payment plan to make it work for you - See below for deets and links.

Dreams do come true
a letter from 3 months in the future
In 3 months. it's August. I have put in consistent actions to move my business and creative joy forward. I have done the pillar work and showed up to the calls and said what I have been doing to move my business forward.
I have created 3 x 'things' at £650 per month, consistently. I have sold art work every month, I have done coaching every month. I have done my affirmations and my journaling and yoga and meditation every day (allowing for a little wiggle room, I am not a tyrant to myself)
In my interactions with the world I am authentic AND I put out into the universe what I desire, consistently. I read my dream statement and this statement daily.
I am deeply grateful to be able to make my art, and contribute value to the world.
I am immensely grateful for the studio, and for the patrons who buy my work and come to my workshops. I love that every time I work with someone I am contributing to the existence of magic in the world, and there is delight in every transaction. I love my work, and I love being paid for it, and my customers are delighted.
The studio has been a gift in so many ways, and I know that I am going to have my very own studio one day soon.
I am already painting, in flow, in my studio, with the sink, with lots of money in the bank, with consistent work coming in, delight in every transaction. I am already paying off the mortgage early, I am already sending my work off to clients around the world. I am already coaching in my studio.
I am super grateful to Steve for the continuing work at Then Somehow and also for the new associate partner I am working with. I am happy and delighted to have had several corporate clients of my own to do coaching and capacity building work and also Wild Art Journaling gigs. Very very happy about that.
I look after myself and my business and I have enjoyed going on holiday with Ted already. I love how happy he is, and also I love how happy Ian is.
I have made sure to do the work. And I am so proud of myself. For creating, for sharing creativity, for inspiring myself and others, and leading myself and others to the space and point of creative trust, faith, adventure into the unknown so that we can listen to it and respond.
For all of this and more delightful suprises, I am super thankful. xxx

A letter from the future
Dear Universe
I am fucking amazingly grateful for all the art sales I am getting lately. Its really taken off, its like, what? one a week - and each one is £2000 so it feels so super exciting! I LOVE painting them and there is DELIGHT in every transaction. The paintings are being shipped all over the world and I am being featured on Saatchi Online and getting exhibitions, it is so so great. I am pinching myself with how good it is. And how this has all sky rocketed. OH and yes, am doing coaching in the studio - I am getting coaching clients who are coming to me because of who I am and what I do and they are paying me proper money, like £1600 a day money. Its taken awhile to get here, but now, here I am. I really am here. I have several clients who pay me £1200 a month to see me once a week. And my VIP days are £1600. And when I say several, I mean, I have 4 clients so that I can do them all on one day if I need to. This leaves the rest of the week free to do my other work, the art. Oh the painting, I am LOVING the painting and getting paid and making SALES for the painting is super magical wonderful magical special. FUCKING LOVING it and being part of the artists community. SO MUCH FUCKING FUN. so at home there. Super seriously love it. I love that I am only working 9 months of the year and hitting my 120 grand a year aim. I love having long and luxurious and fun holidays with friends and family. I love that we have been able to invest in another house, AND pay off all our mortgage early!! WHOOP get US!!
SO fucking fantastic fantastical fantastic. OH YES!

Zen Habits: Making time to Do Stuff You Love
My dear friend Michelle Brace of Unlocked Creative sent me this. Just after she came on my Wild Painting Weekend. Got to say I loves the Leo Babuta Zen Habits blog, and have done for a long time. And this post is a corker. So am sharing it word for word. All credits to the Mr Babuta, who generally allows copy borrowing as far as I understand it.
And here is a picture from the Wild Painting Sessions
zen habits: Creating the Time to Do What You Love Every Day |

By Leo Babauta
Our days are often filled with things we have to do, and things we do to comfort ourselves from the stress and tiredness from doing what we have to do … so we end up putting off what we really want to do.
Think about that for a second: our days are filled with have to do stuff, and comforting stuff. With very little room for things we love to do.
When will we find time to do what we love? When when things calm down, when the visitors leave and the trips we have planned are finished and the holidays are over and this busy project is wrapped up and the kids are grown up and we’re retired? Maybe when we’re dead there will be more time.
There will never be more time. Things are not going to change, get calmer or less busy. There will always be projects, trips, chores, errands, visitors, holidays, illness and death. What we’ve been stuck in for the last few months, the last few years — that’s exactly how life goes.
The challenge isn’t waiting for something to change … it’s making the time no matter what’s going on.
What do you really want to do, that you’ve been putting off? What do you love? What makes you happy, replenishes you, fills you up with joy, helps you fall in love with life? What connects you to the eternal? What is it that you feel you must do because life is too precious not to do it?
Some ideas:
So you’ve identified something you love doing, but you’ve been putting it off until the time is right … can you do it today?
What would open up in you if you knew for a certainty you were going to do this thing you love today? Even if only for 30 minutes?
Carve out that time. Do it now! Leo said so. Put it on your calendar, write a love note to yourself so you don’t forget, set a reminder, tell people you’re going to do it. And make. It. Happen.
Cut out some TV time. Cut out some Internet time. Cut out some time you spend on Facebook, messaging, email, chat, chores, shooting the breeze, drinking alcohol, smoking pot, eating snacks, whatever. Find the time, as if it were an imperative from the gods.
Make it something you can’t not do, because it’s so crucial to your life.
Do it every day for the next month, and see what changes. I challenge you to do it.

It's not about the money
| from my art journals |
Just had a bit of a revelation. It has been percolating for quite a while. (Possibly will not be the last time I will have it. But it feels sure and solid today.)
It is to do with money. I find money incredibly fascinating. Not in a 'I want to count my gold' kind of way. But as a concept, and admittedly, as a personal struggle. I have read so many books about it from all sorts of different angles. I have managed it super carefully and survived on hardly any of it. I have wanted more of it.
I am now 'in business' to 'make money' and - you know - on many levels I need to 'make more of it' because I want to pay off this mortgage, and I want to go on holidays and have my own art studio and all those sorts of things that money can help with.
And yet there is this notion that money isn't anything. It's an 'energy' its a 'fuel' it's not even a real thing - just a cypher absorbing anything we project on it (Charles Davis I am referencing you here) - and as such a tool to discover how to become more whole.
And despite all this it somehow eludes me - like I just don't get it. Literally. HA! I mean, I am fully aware that I am in no way poor, and my position in life makes me part of the top whatever percentage of the world in terms of wealth and fortune. But I still don't get it.
SO back to today. And my revelation with regard to money and my mission the world. Hard to just say it, or write it, but fundamentally - it's not about the money. YES I do need to live (and yes I do want to pay my mortgage off and go on holidays and all that stuff)
But it's just not about the money any more.
I want to make a positive difference in the world. End of.
I am working on exactly how. But it will be using my talents and skills. I expect it will be to do with creativity and connection. And creating a future. And enviromentalism and feminism. Togetherness. Making your own fun. Humanity and divinity. These kinds of things.
Just sayin.

Finding Wild
Sometimes I want to change the name of my Wild Painting. I took it on as a sort of whim, based on what my good friend Morgan told me about her Wild Writing classes, inspired by the work of Natalie Goldberg. The WILD in my case, being more a creative state of mind, than anything to do with the wilderness or nature. Morgan also runs a facebook group Wild Motherhood, and she really does love nature and being out in it - and her life now is nomadic - living in a van and travelling out in it most of the time. So it totally suits her.
For me my Wild is more like the freedom of the creative mind. That space where you no longer know what you are doing, there is no plan, it becomes the leap in the dark. For me, that space there, the departure from the known is pure creativity. For we are now, making it up as we go along. We must become present, very present, and sense and respond to what happens next.
I went to a mindfulness course run by some proper far out Californians who had actually helped train the chaps at the Navy Seals, and Nasa. They explained that being able to be fully present was necessary in VUCA situations. That is Volotile, Uncertain, Changing and Ambiguity. And that our times, now, changing so fast, are VUCA like this.
This might be a diversion.
It's not. It's about presence. And being able to fully respond. That is how it is when I am painting, and in my Wild Mind (as Natalie Goldberg puts it). Leaping into the unknown, CREATING something new. Its at once exhilarating and deeply calming.
I was going to write a blog about how the folk who come on my weekends are so often people who are creative, but just haven't been it for a long time. They know they are, but somehow they just don't get around to it. I know this too. I posted up on my FB page this quote about how women often get distracted by tidying up, and so never get around to the actual creativity part. Here it is.
“I've seen women insist on cleaning everything in the house before they could sit down to write... and you know it's a funny thing about housecleaning... it never comes to an end. Perfect way to stop a woman. A woman must be careful to not allow over-responsibility (or over-respectabilty) to steal her necessary creative rests, riffs, and raptures. She simply must put her foot down and say no to half of what she believes she "should" be doing. Art is not meant to be created in stolen moments only.”
― Clarissa Pinkola Estés
― Clarissa Pinkola Estés
Steven Pressfield writes about it in his short book The War of Art - like its an actual battle with an actual thing. He calls it fighting resistance. It's the thing that gets in the way of you getting creative. In so many ways this is why I created the Wild Painting Weekend. The first time I did it, it was just for me. If I booked the studio, if I invited others to join me - I would beat resistance and spend time painting. And it worked and it was amazing. And it worked for others too. Who went on to restart their painting practice and sell more paintings and get creative again.
So now I have booked a studio - my own space!!! OMG - (well - for 5 months it is - its a sublet!)
Facing that blank canvas I am going to paint, and paint, and paint. Until the painting emerges.
