the year of health

I was listening to someone on the radio a while back, going on about the whole year of..... thing.  Like its the Chinese year of the Horse, don't cha know.  Its also year of other things.  But I can't remember them..  And the suggestion was that you named your own year.  For example the year of Health.  Which is unofficially the word of our house this year.

For my part its mostly because I am signed up to RUN in a crazy difficult OFF ROAD IN THE MUD AND THROUGH RIVERS (jesus wept) race for charity.  Its my cousin's charity and its a bloody good cause, helping my cousin's little boy to be able to walk by some amazing new expensive surgery.  Do please sponsor me if you haven't already.  It helps to know I am getting them money for my efforts, it really does.   You can donate here  http://www.justgiving.com/Moyra-Scott

So, I am not a runner.  And I have been trying.  I keep injuring bits of my legs in the process.  But slowly slowly, I am getting fitter.

I also started teaching Yoga as part of Clocktower Yoga.  We a collective (I know! SO Brighton) of Yoga teachers and its our joint venture.  Lunch hour Yoga 1.10-1.50pm every week day.  And (I measured it) its 2km away.  Down and Up hills.  So most days I am walking there, doing yoga and walking back. Yup.  Getting Fitter!

And then yesterday I read something  - about good habits to do first thing.  And it mentions doing a 7 min exercise regime.  YES 7 minutes.  I thought, this sounds good, short enough to be doable.  And there an app for that.

And I am finding it pretty easy.  Apart from the push ups.  I can't do those at all yet.  Not at ALL!  But I do try, for 30 seconds, I do try.  And that is the genius of it.  You only have to do each thing for 30 seconds!  And so even if it is super hard.  Just 30 seconds.  Apparently this is all you need to do to be fit.  Works for me.

So if you fancy it.  Check it out here.

PSH

"The only true currency in this bankrupt world is what you share with someone else when you're uncool." RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

Here's to uncool moments.  That are the bonds of friendship and meaning and art and humanity.  Here's to being uncool and being rich in a bankrupt world.  Here is to doing something that touches the awe beauty horror and joy that is existence.

I ended up writing a lot last night about what the experience of art gave me.  What was it that made it art.  And it was this sense of wonder and truth.  Of cutting through the bullshit and shining forth like a beacon of juicy reality. Nourishing something deep.  Of the recognition of something being good, properly truly good, when we are so used to being sold something that says its good, and is quite, and seems so, until you come across something that really is.

There is so much trash. So much stuff.  So much quite nice, alrightish, not bad.  But somethings are really good.  And its the unguarded uncool that stands out and means something.

manifesting in a more interesting way

So having had a dip and a resurection.... does this happen to everyone in January.  Post Christmas blues hit, and then its bloody tax time, which is  - which is NOT going to be a big scary unknown next year because THIS year I am going to be ahead of the game.  OH yes.  Its actually pretty easy for me as my book keeping runs ahead, or behind.  It confuses me all the time, but when I was set up as self employed my year end was set as 30th May.  Which means my tax year ends, during the next actual tax year... the long and short of it means that I am currently putting my receipts into my 2015 accounts.  So, actually apart from some share info and interest bits and pieces.  My accounts for 2014 are done already.  SO this year they are going in early.  And I will know, a long long time before Jan 31st 2015 what our tax bill is likely to be.  Imagine that!

So yes.  Manifesting.  I kind of really do need to drum up some income as its been quite slow on my work front of late.  Christmas is always slow, but now, I need it to be faster!  I have a new  yoga venture, which is new, and also slow.  To be honest, even if it were heaving it would n't be a massive earner as its really only one short class a week for me.  But its more than that this yoga business.  In a way I see it as the post graduate part of our yoga 'degree'.  I love doing it with my fellow graduates.  We are all learning so much  from it. And apart from anything else, its making me take my own yoga practice more seriously.  And Hub is coming to my class, which is fantastic!

Hmm.  So manifesting.  I have been thinking about it, and want to approach this whole 'earn more money' thing in a more inttruiging and compelling way.

Today I needed to buy a printer.  Because I need to sign some tax forms and my printer has broken.  Printers are not that expensive.  But even so, my yoga colleague said she had one she is no longer using.  Which gets me a printer.  What I needed.

And so while money is fabulous and I'd like to earn more of it.  I want my manifesting to be more based around what I need.  And what I want.  I want and need to be more in control of my finances for example.  I was, then somehow last year, I let go and stopped bothering.  It was kind of an experiment, and it was fine, apart from, actually I don't really like it.  It makes me feel nervous and insecure.  Hence the being on ahead of my game with the accounts.

So that's part of how I am going to manifest what I  want.  I haven't actually sat down and thought much about it.  SOmetimes I just write here and see what comes up.  But its about working out what it is I want and need.  Like I want and need to go on holiday with my family in May.  My cousin has arranged this.  Its been booked in for ages and she is flying in from Australia.  And then there is my friends 50th in Ibiza.  I want and need to go there.   Food is important and paying bills.....  but also things like eating out.  And socialising.  And a new pair of trainers.  And closeness with my family.  and a cleaner.  Hmm.  Well a cleaner.  I want a clean house that I don't have to clean..... which could mean, getting help from other family members....... or.....  hmm. anyway.  am still working on it.  thoughts and works in progress.  But finances under control..... yes.   Being more valuable at work.  Bringing more value to the table.  Socialising.  Eating out.  Salad club.  things. ..... am off to think on it more!

Manifesting

I am valuable and I have many skills people pay handsomely for. I am an asset to many. I live abundantly from my valuable nature. Money flows to me effortlessly as I share my skills with the world.

Good Daily Habits

So, its still the new year.  And I am going strong with introduction of a few good daily habits.

I found this awesome little infographic thing. And so my first new daily habit is to
"Jump the Frog" (horrid term) but do the hardest thing first.  Which in my case is pretty much always go for a run.  I am entered into a stupidly scary 6K which is likely to be in deep mud and freezing cold.  eugh.  Anyway, I did start 'training' and over did it, and injured various bits in my legs.  So now I am going much slower, and shorter, but trying to keep going with it so as to strengthen whatever muscles my legs need to run.  So far its OK.

My other good daily habits are as follows

1. at least 5 mins Yoga
2. at least 5 mins moving (walking / running)
3. at least 5 mins meditation

All 5 mins to make it easy and achieveable.

4. drink warm water and lemon first thing
5. drink a cup of warm water + raw cider vinegar per day (its meant to be very good for yer)
6. pelvic floor exercises
7. eat something raw every day
8. declutter 15 mins every day

All small things.  And so far so good.  (apart from Saturday which was a hungover wash out! - oops)

OWN IT

Just F***king Own IT.  Apparently Madonna said this.  But recently Andrea Sher wrote about it on her blog.  Well she didn't swear.  But she wrote a super nice piece about the idea of Owning IT.  What ever IT is for you.

My guiding word of the year.  I do like this kind of stuff....... is DELIGHT.  I think its a really good word to keep me guided to spend time doing things that light me up and make me feel good.  And also to be present and find delight in what IS already.  It feels like a light airy gentle sort of joy.  And it is helping me release some stuff I had, in all honesty, been kind of clingy over.

Sometimes just one word isnt enough.  And just now I am preparing for a meeting with a good friend who is going to be my accountability partner for the year.  We had these kinds of chats anyway, so its not a big stretch.  Tomorrow we are going to share what our plans and dreams are. I have been thinking of these sort of things for a while, you know, what happened in 2013 and, what NEXT?  What is 2014 going to bring, and what do I want it to bring.  I usually write a wish list.  SO I will be doing that.  I love the whole notion of wishes coming true!  And this guiding phrase, or word thing.  It helps focus the mind.  God knows I need focus!!

SO along with Delight, I have been thinking of my goals and plans for the year.  And OWNING IT.  really works.  Last year was the year I got qualified.  This year I am stepping it up, and stepping into it.

Hence the yoga class for example.  I am no longer just a qualified teacher, I now have a yoga business to promote.  A class to teach.  A space to practice what I learned.  With work too, last year in January I delivered the first do:work training on my own.  Since then I have done many many many.  This year I am not a newbie.  I am experienced.  I do this.  I want to start bringing in work as well as delivering it.

And I commit to being an artist.  Which I am using a very broad definition of the word.  But that too.  Owning that too.  And for me this is pretty focused.  3 main things.

of course there's a whole load of other stuff.  And I haven't written my wish list yet.

My New Yoga Class in Brighton with Clocktower Yoga

logo designed by Rozynna Fielding

So main exciting news is that I am starting a yoga class on Friday. Yes! My first ever class! I am so excited (and nervous) and excited!  If you are in Brighton this week our launch week means FREE CLASSES.  What better way to kick start a yoga habit, eh? 5 days of free classes with Clocktower Yoga.

Its my new business venture.  Its a cooperative (so Brighton).

Myself, and 3 others from my yoga school,  have set up Clocktower Yoga.  Its a weekday lunchtime class.  We designed it to help people fit Yoga into their lives. So you can pop out and do a lunchtime class without rushing.  It runs from 10 past one to 10 to two.  40 mins.  Enough to touch base with your yoga practice, but also time to get changed and get a sarnie and not have a mad panic rush to get there and back in your lunch hour.  Its a (Brighton) town centre location so near lots of offices. (Just by the old ice rink by the way, not far from the Clocktower and Churchill Square.
